Setting the Goals

Goals are a form of motivation that sets the standard for self-satisfaction with performance. But are those goals SMART enough. A person must think before he sets a goal for his future whether his goals are smart enough are not. the smart goals can be explained as below...

S --  Specific,Significant,Stretching,Simple

M -- Measurable,Motivational,Manageable,Meaningful

A -- Attainable,Appropriate,Achievable,Acceptable

R -- Relevant,Realistic,Result-Based

T -- Time bound,Tangible

Pygmalion Effect is the phenomenon in which the greater the expectation placed upon people, the better they perform.

This phenomenon was related to a Greek myth Pygmolion prince of cyprus. He had lost intrest in women as he saw them prostituting.  He tried to carve an ivory statue of an ideal women. He  fell in love with that ivory statue. On an auspicious day he prayed the goddess of love Venus to fulfill his wish though he was scared that it is impossible to turn the statue in to women. When he returned home he found that the statue turned out to be a beautiful women.

According to this effect a persons performance or productivity can be improved by believing in him, trusting him and encouraging him in all aspects. For example consider a school child who's performance is very low in the class. If the teacher had encouraged him, and him in his studies his performance would have increased. The same effect of influencing people can be done at various situations as in workplace, family etc...The short video below gives examples of pygmalion effect that were experienced in day to day life
